It’s been a fun little dance thus far, though I have to admit, it hasn’t always been an easy write when my interest in WoW tends to phase with the moons.  That’s not really what made me fall off, though.  In truth, the time I typically dedicated to writing became filled in with work.  That probably has something to do with the fact that I wrote most of my articles at work.  Funny how that pans out.  Nope, there’s only so many months an employer will let you goof around aimlessly on the Internet before they cautiously put down their foot but not too hard and ask gently if you could maybe work on a project if it’s not too much trouble thank you.  That’s government for you.

Now summer is arriving, and with it comes the potential for a little personal project time.  I’ve strongly debated on it, and I think the time would be better spent on more diverse endeavors, like my WoW-less parent website.  I’d point you to it, but Skip isn’t about the wanton self-promotion.  That’s not how he rolls.  Wait, yes it is.  Skip rolls that way all the time.  But this one time, I’ll go against the grain.

Fortune Cookie:

So, after coming back from a few days of settling myself into the educational system, I was a tinge stunned at the results. (Yes, I am a student part-time, and have been for a duration typically reserved for future doctors and the mentally handicapped. There is no PhD in my future.) What I found was thus:

288 views for January 19, 2010. w00t, I think. For this, I have Twisted Nether Blogcast to thank for close to 200 of those, and The Daily Druid for a sizable chunk over that and the last few days.

Is this an outlier of a number that inaccurately portrays the public interest through artificial inflation caused by links from shared topics? Yes.

Do I care? No.

Do I like big numbers, by any means necessary? Yes.

Moral of the story: Do your shared topics, bloggers! You too can have the have the empty gratification of shallow, external validation, just like me! That is why the Internet was made. That and porn.

All of this I know to be true. But, gut intuition rules all that I do, and my comment section was kicking me sharply in the lower intestines.

It turns out, WordPress has had threaded comments available by default and has had it for a while now.

Who woulda guessed? I probably should’ve. But now I know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is violence.

At any rate, you may now return to your regularly scheduled program. Today’s motto: If you comment now, I will probably tell you I love you in a creepy stalker sort of way.

There are benefits to being “on the grid” with WordPress.  I’m sure there are plug-ins that offer the same level of social integration, though I’ve never taken the effort to look for it.  Big Bear Butt uses CommentLuv, which I’ve recently joined and of which am considering making further use.

The kicker came when I discovered I could use WoWHead (where I link most of my talents and such anyways) to add hover text to my links, which I think is just an amazing tool for readers to get a quick understanding of what you’re talking about when it comes to items and talents, without having to bounce between pages.  WP hosted sites cannot use JavaScript in any capacity, which is required to make use of this functionality.  It was the last Jenga block in a tipsy tower setup by your drunken uncle who should never be allowed near anything resembling a construction tool after two drinks, even if it’s just half of a plastic box.  Reminders that I cannot edit my own themes or write my own plug-ins, which I do to an unhealthy degree, came down on me like a cascade of wooden blocks on the table of my patience.  I’m about at my wit’s end with it.

I don’t suspect I have the drive to buy yet another domain name, but since I do own skipcocoa.net, and I write here under the Skip Cocoa alias, it may be fair to compromise and host MBTY at morebarsthanyou.skipcocoa.net.  I’ve yet to make a formal decision, but it’s beginning to lean that way.  The world waits with bated breath, I know.

I play on Moonrunner, a PvE server that is approximately 80% Alliance / 20% Blood Elf. My main, and first character ever (a coincidence not at all helped by my altaholic condition) is a Night Elf Druid named Calhi. I came into the game thinking “i be a healz ja” and quickly found leveling your first character as a healer is a practice in pain. At level 20, the game gave me a kitty and that was the end of that. I’ve been Feral ever since, and though I’ve gone back to dabble in trees and Mr. Hoot-Hoot the Oomkin with my second spec, it’s just too hard to give up all those extra bars. You have two bars. I have four. The math is inescapable.

I don’t have fancy strats or leet skills to put on display for you. I tend to spend more time fishing and catching mini-pets. For true insight, I believe I shall point you towards my inspiration and favorite Bossy Pally for that. /pimp Love you, Rykga!
