I suppose I should make some sort of comment, rather than fading from notice without a peep.  That’s not how Skip rolls.  Wait, yes it is.  Skip rolls that way all the time.  But this one time, I’ll go against the grain.

It’s been a fun little dance thus far, though I have to admit, it hasn’t always been an easy write when my interest in WoW tends to phase with the moons.  That’s not really what made me fall off, though.  In truth, the time I typically dedicated to writing became filled in with work.  That probably has something to do with the fact that I wrote most of my articles at work.  Funny how that pans out.  Nope, there’s only so many months an employer will let you goof around aimlessly on the Internet before they cautiously put down their foot but not too hard and ask gently if you could maybe work on a project if it’s not too much trouble thank you.  That’s government for you.

Now summer is arriving, and with it comes the potential for a little personal project time.  I’ve strongly debated on it, and I think the time would be better spent on more diverse endeavors, like my WoW-less parent website.  I’d point you to it, but Skip isn’t about the wanton self-promotion.  That’s not how he rolls.  Wait, yes it is.  Skip rolls that way all the time.  But this one time, I’ll go against the grain.

Fortune Cookie:

This isn’t the last you’ll hear of Skip.  You’ve just become family now.  That means you get calls on holidays, birthdays and when he needs money.

I run a small operation here. I consider this blog a success, simply because it has daily traffic. Depending on my activity level, “daily traffic” ranges from single digit numbers from my loyal bot readers to playing between the 20 to 40 views. A lot of it comes from search traffic, who seem to stay to look at a couple articles and then go about their merry way. Like a homeless person washing himself on a busy street in drain water with his underpants for a washcloth, I’m intriguing enough for a lingering glance, but ultimately scary and potentially diseased.

So, after coming back from a few days of settling myself into the educational system, I was a tinge stunned at the results. (Yes, I am a student part-time, and have been for a duration typically reserved for future doctors and the mentally handicapped. There is no PhD in my future.) What I found was thus:

288 views for January 19, 2010. w00t, I think. For this, I have Twisted Nether Blogcast to thank for close to 200 of those, and The Daily Druid for a sizable chunk over that and the last few days.

Is this an outlier of a number that inaccurately portrays the public interest through artificial inflation caused by links from shared topics? Yes.

Do I care? No.

Do I like big numbers, by any means necessary? Yes.

Moral of the story: Do your shared topics, bloggers! You too can have the have the empty gratification of shallow, external validation, just like me! That is why the Internet was made. That and porn.

You must gather your party before venturing forth.

I’ve finally fumbled through the busy season, and should be able to get back to gaming in the near future.  No, I don’t work in sales or involve myself in the holidays in any functional way.  Still, it’s the time of year where I’m demanded, and I don’t get much in the way of free time.  Yup.  I’m a super hero.  You would not believe the number of super villains who are influenced by the Grinch.  ”Oh, let’s steal Christmas,” they say.  Well, something of theirs grew three sizes that day.  Blunt trauma to the brain does that.  People give the Invisible Woman a lot of crap, but let me tell you, concussive force powers are freakin’ sweet.  BAMF!  Force ball to the face!

Anyham, don’t uncheck that RSS button.  I’ll… um… do a Shared Topic… or something.  Let’s see, what’s up next… A review of my WoWing this year?  My memory isn’t that good. I guess I could make something up.  Yeah, no one would know the difference.  What, is this thing still on?  Aw, bugger…

It’s been bugging me for a while that my comments section has been linear. I really like replying to comments, but there’s some mysterious power behind that linear wall that makes me feel if I respond to a comment, it has to be meaningful or insightful. But comments don’t have to be soul-altering paradigm busters. It is perfectly okay to say “I agree with you agreeing with me” just for the sake and joy of replying to someone who took the time out to both read and say something about your creation. On a small blog like this, a comment is probably the greatest praise you can get, and a reply is the biggest gratitude you can offer to thank someone for that warm feeling they just gave you.

All of this I know to be true. But, gut intuition rules all that I do, and my comment section was kicking me sharply in the lower intestines.

It turns out, WordPress has had threaded comments available by default and has had it for a while now.

wp-disc-threadWho woulda guessed? I probably should’ve. But now I know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is violence.

At any rate, you may now return to your regularly scheduled program. Today’s motto: If you comment now, I will probably tell you I love you in a creepy stalker sort of way.

It may have been a short and meaningless post, but you still get a fortune cookie:

You can take the man out of the forest, but you can’t take the forest out of the man. Don’t worry though.  His high fiber diet will ensure it passes quickly.

Hello there, chiiiiildren! Welcome to “The Feed”, live and a-live, comin’ at you like a meteor to the face from that Hubble Bubble in the sky, the Ceremonial Orbiting Anvil! Okay, wrong blog, but I can’t help but get pumped when I’m typing directly from my chair on the COA. What the Fel am I talking about? Well, MBTY used to be hosted on WordPress, and now it’s been moved and parked right here on my very own little corner of the blog-o-sphere. Spheres don’t have corners, Skip. Touché. So, welcome all to More Bars Than You, the Feral Druid Adventure, now hosted by me, the SC.
